Talk To Our Engineer “PPS made the impossible possible.” — Brandon Larson, Red Bull High Performance A selection of organizations we've worked with What are tactile sensors?Contact mechanics, made measurable and visibleTactile sensing is the technology of mapping and measuring the contact mechanics between two objects. When searching for pressure measurement and mapping, you will come across two main technologies: capacitive sensors and resistive sensors. Resistive sensors work through measuring the resistance of a conductive material. Capacitive sensors are a newer technology and work through measuring the ability to store an electrical charge. Though more expensive to produce, capacitive sensors outcompete traditional resistive sensors in nearly every aspect including design flexibility, sensitivity, repeatability, and temperature stability. Tactile capacitive sensing, our specialty, represents the forefront of capacitive sensing. Our Story

For 30 years we have developed capacitive tactile sensing systems - more sensitive and repeatable than resistive alternatives. But the sensor is only part of what we offer. Our engineers work with you from the start, often recommending solutions you wouldn't have considered. And our Chameleon software transforms raw pressure data into clear, meaningful visualization. 200+ organizations, worldwide trust PPS to deliver.

Tactile sensing is the technology of mapping and measuring the contact mechanics between two objects.

Appearing in Electronic Specifier, this feature examines how PPS tactile sensing technology helps engineers quantify comfort and fit in wearable devices through real-time pressure mapping and contact analysis. The article highlights how objective tactile data can support more ergonomic, user-focused product development across wearables and head-mounted electronics.

Appearing in EPD to the Net, this case study explores how PPS tactile sensing technology helped Heeluxe develop SmartLast — an automated system designed to quantify footwear comfort and fit through objective, repeatable pressure measurement. The article highlights how tactile sensing is helping transform footwear evaluation from subjective feedback into scalable engineering data.

This article, published by Engineer Live, explores how PPS is using tactile sensing technology to bring objective, measurable insight into comfort and fit for electronics and wearable devices. It highlights how pressure mapping and contact analysis can help engineers better understand real human interaction with products, supporting improved ergonomics, usability, and user experience during product development.

Appearing in Tech Briefs, the article highlights how PPS tactile sensing technology was integrated into a custom curling training brush to capture real-time pressure data during sweeping. Developed with Professor Gerry Sande, the system translates sweeping technique into measurable data, helping teams analyse performance and refine training strategies.

Appearing in MEM UK News, this announcement highlights how PPS is advancing the understanding of ergonomics through tactile sensing. The upcoming webinar explores new approaches to measuring human interaction, including hand forces, grip, and contact pressure, helping to turn subjective comfort and strain into clear, measurable data for safer and more effective design.

We are engineers, researchers, and problem solvers who have spent years obsessing over contact mechanics. Not because it's a market opportunity, but because it's a genuinely fascinating engineering challenge that matters in the real world.

From our offices in the US and UK, and with distribution partners across Asia, we support organizations wherever the sensing challenge takes us.
